Leading in Online Course Development
First of all, online course creation is faculty-driven and faculty-led.
Given the uniqueness of an online learning environment, creating an online course is challenging and demanding; it requires not only huge time and work in the course design, but also some specialized skills and strategies. We do not expect you to create an online course on your own. Our goal is to provide the following support services to help you create your course, and you, as faculty, will be leading us to achieve this goal.
- Technology Support creating instructional materials such as PowerPoint, Web pages, videos, CDs, DVDs; materials publication; using course management systems such as Desire to Learn, Blackboard, and WebCT; setting up distance learning facilities such as video conferencing, and more.
- Instructional design support: helping faculty go from "on-time" (resident-based) to "online;" creating brand-new online courses; redesigning existing online course, and more.
- Assessment Support: incorporating innovative assessment strategies; seeking cooperative efforts with OSU Assessment Program, and more.
