Re: Call for Proposals for Online Course Development
Please nominate faculty to participate in a new faculty development opportunity sponsored by the Division of Academic Affairs and the Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence. Faculty will attend a weeklong workshop on development of online courses and develop an additional section of a course that will be offered online (the proposal should include development of the entire course for online delivery). Preference will be given to general education courses and introductory courses that are required for all students in a college. Instructors may also submit proposals to develop required courses as part of a degree completion program or to meet the needs of students who are participating in internships, etc. Instructors may also submit proposals to convert traditional paper-based correspondence courses into online courses.
Deans will be asked to rate the proposals as high, medium, or low priority for the college. The completed forms must be submitted to 101 Whitehurst by January
21, 2008.
Successful proposals will be funded for $3000 ($2000
after training is completed and $1000 when the course is offered). The proposal should include a brief curriculum vitae of the instructor, current syllabus, description of current use of computer-assisted education in the class, and proposed timeline for development of the online section. Faculty should submit the attached form to their Dean’s Office for review.
Faculty who accept a stipend for development of the course will be required to:
- attend training sessions from 1:00 – 5:00 pm
in
May 12- 16
- participate in a showcase of online courses in the fall, and
- begin delivery of the online section of the course within one year.
The Institute for Teaching and Learning Excellence (located in 100 Telecommunications Building) will coordinate the training session in May, and offer additional training sessions and provide individual assistance for faculty during the summer. As space permits, other faculty will be encouraged to attend the training sessions.
The online section of the course will be considered as a work for hire in accordance with OSU and college policies and procedures (http://www.okstate.edu/osu_policies/1-0201.html). Related instruction and outreach units may also invest in these projects for a return of post-expense net revenues that is proportional to the amount that each unit invests.
These courses may be offered as
- Off Campus courses (600 sections). Students will enroll in these courses through college outreach offices. These courses count towards a student’s full-time enrollment, but the enrollment of international studies in these courses is limited. Students pay regular tuition and may be charged an additional fee of up to $300/credit for these courses delivered by electronic media. Faculty compensation for delivery of the course will be determined by college policy. The college’s outreach office will provide faculty assistance for delivery of the course.
- Independent study courses (500 sections). Students will enroll in these courses through SIS. These courses count towards a student’s full-time enrollment for financial aid purposes. Students pay regular tuition and fees for these courses. Faculty are paid per assignment and examination graded by Independent Study. The Independent Study Office will provide faculty assistance for delivery of the course.
- On-campus supplemental courses (500 sections). Students will enroll in these courses through SIS. These courses count towards a student’s full-time enrollment for financial aid purposes. Students pay regular tuition and fees for these courses. Faculty compensation for the delivery of the course will be determined by college policy. The college (usually the outreach unit) will provide faculty assistance for delivery of the course.
