Distance Learning Classrooms

Image OSU presently has several classroom studios equipped for instructor-controlled operation.

Typically over 150 OSU courses are delivered each year.  With each class meeting several times a week, it’s easy to understand why the rooms are usually so busy.

ITLE provides scheduling, technical support, and delivery of classes that involve OSU and other university’s interactive distance learning classrooms.

The distance learning classes and classrooms supported in some capacity by the ITLE Conferencing Services Department include classes and classrooms from OSU Stillwater, OSU Tulsa, OSU-OKC, OSU Okmulgee, Northern Oklahoma College Tonkawa, Northern Oklahoma College Enid, and Tulsa Community College.

If you have been scheduled to teach in a distance learning room, have no fear; the rooms have a nice rounded instructor console “cockpit” for easy access to all the necessary tools to teach effectively at a distance.  Front and center on the console is the heart of the ability to control every aspect of the room; the touch panel controller.  Each room comes with a document camera for showing hand written notes or displaying small objects.  They also have a computer for showing PowerPoint, applications, or websites.  There are usually several USB ports available so you can bring your PowerPoint presentation on a thumb drive if you prefer.  Most rooms come equipped with a DVD drive or DVD player if you need to display any DVD content.  There is also usually a VCR for showing VHS videotapes.  You typically have control of the room audio levels, so it is easily within your power to adjust the levels to suit your needs.  The student’s microphones usually have a tracking feature that automatically causes their camera to zoom in on anyone asking a question thus saving you from the rigors of cameraman duties.  The rooms are equipped with telephones, so help is just a button press away.  Our master control engineers who help connect your class to the remote sites will be there ready to help with any technically difficulties you might have.  So relax and do what you do best….teach.
