Inclusive Teaching Practices: Session 1 What is it, and how do I do it?

Generic Event Image

Inclusive teaching has received a great deal of attention on college campuses recently. Although instructors are expected to create learning environments that are inclusive to all students, establishing such environments can be difficult, especially considering the various personal biases that exist within individual classrooms. During this 90-minute interactive session, participants will consider some misconceptions about inclusive teaching, identify the benefits of inclusive teaching practices, and discuss strategies for adopting inclusive teaching in their own courses.

  • Session 1: January 25, 2019. 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM
  • Room: ITLE 126
  • Presenters: Dr. Shane Robinson, Mr. Simon Ringsmuth.

Shane Robinson is a professor in agricultural education and the associate director at ITLE. As a faculty member, he instructs a graduate college teaching course and assists in the preparation of students for secondary teaching careers. At ITLE, he directs the Teaching and Learning Support staff in identifying, planning, and delivering high quality, timely, and relevant professional development on effective teaching for all faculty instructors at OSU.

Simon Ringsmuth is an instructional designer and teaching support specialist at ITLE who works with faculty across campus to improve their teaching by discussing course design principles, implementing research-based engagement strategies, and building impactful relationships with students. Simon also teaches ITLE’s Preparing Online Instructors class each Fall and Spring, leads the ITLE Online Teaching Workshop each summer, and spearheads OSU’s annual Teaching with Technology Conference.
