Fall 2019 - Scholarship of Teaching and Learning for OSU Faculty

OSU Faculty wishing to deepen their understandings of teaching and learning are invited to participate in this six-week workshop facilitated by ITLE. Structured similarly to an interdisciplinary hybrid-style course, participants can expect to work both independently and as part of a cohort in order to investigate:

  • Strategies for creating effective lessons.
  • Approaches that promote student engagement.
  • Mechanisms for increasing student motivation.
  • Influences of educational theory and practice.
  • Components of effective instructional design.
  • Techniques that encourage students’ active participation.
  • Meaningful approaches to assessment.

Textbook

Participants will supply their own copy of the following textbook: Nilson, L. (2016). Teaching at Its best: A research-based resource for college instructors (4th ed.). San Francisco: Jossey-Bass

Cost

Workshop fee is $20 which may be covered by the individual participant or through the use of departmental funds. Faculty are encouraged to visit with department heads regarding possibilities for funding
