Using Canvas Studio
Studio is a lecture capture and presentation recording tool that is integrated in
Canvas. It can be used to capture classroom lectures, or you can use it to record
a lecture for students to view independently. Studio can be used to share slides,
documents, and other multimedia. Instructors and students access Studio through the
course navigation button or links within the Canvas course site. To use Studio, you
must first enable it in your Canvas page.
How to use Studio in teaching?
- Record a welcome message for the course.
- Record class lectures (for face-to-face classes) for students to review later.
- Record lectures for online classes, or as part of a face-to-face or hybrid course.
- Record a demonstration of a process or procedure.
- Record presentations by guest speakers.
- Use the in-video quizzing tool to provide students with self-check or assessment.
- Embed a recording into the Rich Content Editor of a Canvas discussion or assignment as a springboard for reflection and discussion.
- Students can create their own Studio recordings, providing a platform for virtual presentations as an assessment tool.
Is Studio accessible?
Automatic Speech Recognition captions may be added to your Studio recordings. These automatic captions are a great first step toward accessibility. However, it is important to note: automatic captions are not ADA-compliant. If a student in your course provides an accommodations letter, you need to ensure you edit your Studio captions. If you have questions about editing captions, reach out to your campus support.
