Canvas Alerts
How YouTube videos are displayed within Canvas is changing. Because many video content
providers are monetizing their YouTube video content, YouTube has changed their policy
on displaying ads and links. On September 1, 2025, Canvas Studio will implement a
new YouTube Player for Education. This will remove ads and external links for existing
YouTube videos already in Studio, and new videos uploaded into Canvas Studio.
For any YouTube videos not in Canvas Studio, ads may be displayed starting on September
22, 2025. There will be a message overlay on YouTube videos before the video plays
to alert viewers that there may be ads present.
On September 1, 2025, a course-level migration tool will be available in Canvas to
allow faculty to migrate any YouTube videos not already in Canvas Studio. YouTube
videos already in Canvas Studio will not need to be re-migrated.
