Canvas Accessibility Checkers
Canvas includes two accessibility checking tools that can help instructors identify and correct common barriers in course content. The Rich Content Editor Accessibility Checker reviews content as you create or update it, while the Course Accessibility Checker scans an entire course for issues that may need attention. Used together, these tools support a more efficient accessibility review process and a more inclusive learning experience for all OSU students.
Rich Content Editor Accessibility Checker
Learn how to use the Canvas Rich Content Editor Accessibility Checker to identify and correct common accessibility issues before publishing course content.
This quick tutorial shows you where to find the checker, review flagged issues, apply recommended corrections, and confirm that your content has passed its review. The Accessibility Checker is available in Canvas Pages, Assignments, Discussions, Announcements, and Quiz instructions.
Please note that the checker reviews content created in the Rich Content Editor but does not evaluate uploaded documents, videos, or other attached files.
Course Accessibility Checker
Learn how to use the Canvas Course Accessibility Checker to scan an entire course for common accessibility issues, review the results, and make improvements directly in Canvas.
This video demonstrates how to:
- Run a course-wide accessibility scan
- Review and prioritize identified issues
- Understand what the automated checker can and cannot evaluate
- Use the Course Accessibility Checker alongside the Rich Content Editor Accessibility Checker
Using both Canvas accessibility tools can help you address barriers more efficiently and create a more inclusive learning experience for all OSU students.
Recommended workflow
Use the Rich Content Editor Accessibility Checker whenever you create or update content in Canvas, ideally before publishing. Run the Course Accessibility Checker periodically, and especially before the start of each semester, to identify issues across the course that may have been missed during content creation.
